Fires in Roleystone - Feb 6 2011

Yesterday morning, a fire started on Brookton Hwy which quickly spread through the bush and burned houses in all directions.  A friend whose house was much closer than mine and myself went investigating and found that we could help save some nearby houses.
These photos show our first check, then our subsequent efforts at putting out the flames, theres some video as well.
We did well, and thanks to all the people that hung around and helped do some good.

The photos below were taken on Contour Road, and we were fighting to save the houses on the Western end...

I was pleased to see fellow FMG(Fortescue Metals Group) employees dressed in PPE doing their best to help, whether supplying water or weilding a shovel, the end result was worth it, the people of Contour Road can breathe a sigh of relief.  As we left, the cavalry arrived, the various fire brigades, about 5 trucks and vehicles to help guard the area overnight.  Concerned residents we are, nuts we are not, climbing around the hilly bushlands with a fire on your butt at night is not clever.  The rocks, cliffs and gusts of wind fanning the fire would make it a risky proposition.
